Statement of Faith

Author's Note: This year, at my church, I will be getting confirmed. One of the requirements of Confirmation is writing a personal statement of faith, something I found very difficult yet beneficial. The only requirement I had was to incorporate at least three bible verses... So I had a lot of fun with format :) Comments appreciated!

“Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating he had done.” (Genesis 2:3). I believe in God. I believe that God created the Heavens and the Earth, all within six days, taking the seventh day to rest. I believe that Sunday is a time for me to reconnect with God. A time, that I always should give to Him.
I am not going to lie, I usually don’t enjoy getting out of bed before nine on the weekend, even if it is Sunday. But I know that it’s the least I can do to honor God, the one who created everything around me. Without Him, I wouldn’t have my parents. I wouldn’t have my sisters. I wouldn’t have my friends. And I would cease to exist.

“For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:17). I believe in Jesus. I believe that Jesus was God’s son. I believe that Jesus was crucified, buried, and he rose from the dead.  I believe Jesus followed God’s direction, and died for our sins. I believe Jesus was sent for my, and every believers salvation.
I am not perfect. The only perfect living being there ever was, is Jesus. I cannot imagine the number of sins I sin each day are just forgiven by God, all because his Son loved me enough to carry what should be my cross. Without His sacrifice, I would never know what Heaven truly is, or feel the joy of meeting God and not having to fret over every mistake I make as a human.

“After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” (Acts 4:31). I believe in the Holy Spirit. I believe that the Holy Spirit empowers us. I believe the Holy Spirit fills us. I believe that the Holy Spirit calls us to do the work of God.
I am like any other middle school student. I feel uncomfortable talking about my faith, with non-believers. But I know that whenever I do find the courage to speak the word, and of God I know it’s because of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has also called me to do things such as go on the Summer Mission Trip to Pennsylvania. Without the Spirit’s work through me, I would be a “inactive Christian”, and basically be letting people not here the good news of God, never giving them a chance for salvation.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all you ways submit yourself to Him, and he will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6). I believe Noah trusted God, and packed up his whole life because he allowed God to be the planner. I believe that Mary trusted God, and when she heard that she would give birth to Jesus, she never complained.  I believe that David trusted God, and fought against Goliath, unafraid. I believe that as a Christian, I need to trust in God.
I’ve moved around all through my childhood, because of my dad’s job. I have lived in 6 states, and I have met many new people and friends. At first, I hated the fact that my dad as in the army, and for the longest time, I blamed God for putting me in situations like this. But I soon realized that people in the bible, went through more than I have in 14 years. And that God’s plan for me may not be the same as others. Without his plans, I would be lost and I wouldn’t have had the experiences I have had the privilege to live.
